Important NE sportsmen's links
This list is definitely not all inclusive
All NE Sportsmen should be aware of these important state and national sportsmen's organizations and their inter-connectivity.
a 501(C)3 NOT-FOR-PROFIT Foundation. 501(C)3 is the IRS designation for a charitable organization that qualifies as an educational institution. The Nebraska Sportsmen's Foundation (NSF) was formed, as a not-for-profit 501(c)3, to be a liaison to the Nebraska Legislative Sportsmen's Forum (NLSF). The Nebraska Sportsmen's Foundation works on behalf of current and future generations to protect and guarantee the right to pursue the time-honored traditions of fishing, trapping, hunting and other related activities, for every Nebraskan, in eternity, through legislative action, public awareness and education.
NLSF - Nebraska Legislative Sportsmen's Foundation - No web site -
The NE Legislative Sportsmen Foundation works on behalf of current and future generations of Nebraskan's to protect the right and increase the opportunity to hunt, trap and fish by serving as the Sportsmen's link to the NE Legislature. Due to "term limits" the NLSF lost a lot of it's NE legislative members. Currently we are looking for more NE State Senators to join NLSF. This is the group Senator Tony Fulton from Lincoln is PROBABLY going to Chair.
The NLSF was established and modeled after the bipartisan Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus (CSC) in Washington D.C. which sports over 200 members from the House and Senate.
The NLSF was comprised of over 20 NE State Senators who desire a better understanding of the issues facing Nebraska.
The NLSF will become educated on the needs and rights of sportsmen and women ensuring the future of fishing, trapping, hunting and outdoor shooting sports.
NCSC - Nebraska Council of Sportsmen's Clubs - No web site - NCSC does have "some" long-time repoir established already with NE senators that has been in place for a while. At least those senators that have served on the natural resources committee have knowledge of them and the body responses well to the annual wild game reception which is scheduled for Jan 22 this year. Last year over half of the 49 attended the event which generally is an annual affair. Maybe ENGC or NMA would like to join the group by paying dues and having voting power? And then don't forget the NSF which also have an event scheduled in March for the senators education in which we have Mike Callahan coming to address the senators.
NASC - National Assembly of Sportsmen's Caucuses - http://www.statesportsmenslink.org/
The National Assembly of Sportsmen’s Caucuses (NASC) unites state legislators in support of hunting, fishing and trapping, as well as professional wildlife management, in the halls of state government. NASC does this by:
Forming state sportsmen’s caucuses within state legislatures. Currently there are 26 state sportsmen’s caucuses affiliated with NASC. These caucuses form a network working together, sharing information, duplicating pro-sportsmen’s legislation from one state to the next, and being on the look out and learning from anti-sportsmen’s efforts in one state that might appear in another state.
Serving as a central and unifying source of information, model legislation, and funding assistance for state sportsmen’s caucuses.
Providing a venue for focused interaction and idea exchange among state caucuses, sportsmen’s groups, industry, media and allied interests.
NASC is the only organization in the United States whose sole purpose is to coordinate and work with state elected officials to protect and promote the rights of sportsmen and women. NASC shares a unique relationship with state sportsmen’s causes in more than 25 states with a membership of more than 2,500 state legislators.
Everyday NASC tracks legislation at the state level that has the potential to impact sportsmen and women, working with NASC State Caucus Leadership Teams, we are in constant communication with state legislators working to promote pro-sportsmen’s legislation and defeat attacks by those who wish to put an end to all hunting and fishing.
CSC or CSF - Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation - http://www.sportsmenslink.org/ The Congressional Sportsmen's Foundation works on behalf of current and future generations of Americans to protect the right and increase the opportunity to hunt, trap and fish by serving as the Sportsmen's link to Congress. Did you know?
Sportsmen could fill every NFL and Major League Baseball Stadium, as well as every NASCAR track 6 times over.
If Sportsmen were a corporation, they would rank #11 on the Fortune 500 list, above Home Depot™ and AT&T™.
Sportsmen support more jobs than Wal-Mart™ - the country’s largest employer.
While hunting and fishing garner widespread attention as traditional activities, they get little recognition as a major economic force. Too often, when fiscal belts get tightened, the federal and state governments look first to fish and wildlife conservation and management funds to fill other budget gaps. But recognizing how important hunting and fishing are to the economy may make elected officials take a closer look before diverting critical natural resource funding away from these essential programs. Find out more about the economic impact of sportsmen, read The American Sportsman - Take a Closer Look.
